UVA’s BA in Politics provides a deep and broad understanding of political systems, behavior, institutions, and ideas. Students choose from four subfields—American politics, political theory, comparative politics, and international relations—while developing analytical and writing skills essential for public service, policy analysis, law, or international affairs. Through seminars, internships, and faculty-guided research, students learn how political power is exercised and challenged globally and domestically. The program emphasizes citizenship, ethics, and the role of institutions in shaping society.
